Roller coasting

Have you ever ridden a roller coaster? If you have then you know there are two options while on it: either madly laugh or scream in fear. The ride isn't smooth and you know it. There are plenty exciting going ups and just as many steep going downs. At the end of the ride, you go home bearing that photo that reminds you of your adventure. Will you be sitting somewhere alone, frightened and with a dreadful look on your face? Or will you be holding tight onto someone next to you or maybe even on that safety equipment but bear a huge grin on your face?
Life is always going up and down. In fact, you're in a perpetual roller coaster since you're born whether you want it or not. But how you react to it and to the lack of control is what decides what happens next. You can give into that fear that bursts into your body when going down or you can close your eyes and enjoy the ride knowing that whatever happens everything will be OK in the end.
Sometimes... okay, many times in our life we lose control. How do you react? Do you get scared, blame someone for it and then become angry with that someone? Will anger solve your problems? Why not let it be and enjoy the things you can control?
I wonder why we give into fear and anger so easily... Some say it's because we don't trust ourselves and we have a low self esteem, that when we lose control while having a low self esteem it seems like the ground is shifting beneath our feet... so we start getting angry to regain that control. But that anger is just a mere illusion:) What do you think? How do you react when you can't control things?

Day 349. 28 years later

pancake cake

Today it's 28 years since my parents got married. That sounds like a lot, huh? A lifetime spent together. Ups and downs, laughs and tears, a lot of hard work raising me and my brother.
I know that many times we're not on the same page regarding life issues and I know it's difficult for them to see beyond the bare necessities like having a good job, getting married and having a beautiful family but in the end I admire them. Because they're still together, still loving and respecting each other. They raised us beautifully even if I thought they're over protective. I guess they're just parents. And they want the best for their kids.
I wish I'd get my 28th wedding anniversary too. And be happy and in love just like them:)

Happy anniversary, dear mom and dad!

Day 310. The short road

The traveler horse

... isn't always the best for you. My family and I found that the hard way today but at least we learned our lesson:)
I also learned that it's not ok to push things the way you want. They just won't work all the time. And that's when you'll be disappointed. So better consider your options and sometimes take the long road instead. It will be smoother and it will give you time to enjoy the ride properly. Sure, it will have its bumps now and then, but you'll take them one by one and you'll surpass them more easily thinking about the destination that you're looking forward to achieve.
The long road is the vivid representation of life. It has its ups and downs, but it's mostly smooth if you learn to be patient enough. If you don't, it will just seem endless and you'll always want to take the short one instead. But then life will bring you back to the lesson you need to learn: the short road isn't always the best for you:)

Day 251. Ups and downs

Life in a kindergarten is full of ups and downs. You'd say it has to be pretty easy to take care of some kids and teach them some basic stuff about life. If only...
Today I reached bottom with a class of kids who didn't want to get involved in a contest I had prepared for them. It's not that it wasn't interesting, on the contrary. Each time someone wants to teach them something, they show no respect towards the teacher in front of them. They really behave like savages who are not aware that in a society there are rules that have to be obeyed. No matter how I tried to get their attention, there were always 2 or 3 children who messed everything up and dragged the other kids along with them.
I couldn't finish the activity today and I couldn't find any brilliant solution to solve this issue. I felt overwhelmed and it was one of moments when you feel you know so little and that hurts. But by the time I was pondering upon that, some other kids welcomed me in their class jumping on me, hugging me and telling me they love me. My heart melted and then I realized you can't solve all problems around you. Some take more than you can do. It's like wanting to turn a rotten apple into a perfect one. You just can't. All you have to do is accept the fact that you can't help them all. Some don't want to be helped. And the ones who did, begged me to go on with the contest and they are the ones I have to focus on. They make me believe my presence around them matters. But you can't make them all like you, Dana. Just let it go.
